GLENSOUND AUDIO INTERFACES - Dante/Ravenna

A range of analogue/AES3 to Dante/AES67 and Dante/AES67 to analogue/AES3 interfaces from Glensound. These interfaces are designed to be used in broadcast audio and recording studios whereby a reliable and high quality end product is required. The AES3 interfaces have been designed for use in outside broadcast, theatre, and location applications, where interfacing between AES3 and Dante/AES67 is required.

GTM - Dante to headphone/headset

Available in three options – GTM, with top panel controllers; GTM SDI, as GTM but with addition of HD-SDI input; and GTM SI, a stripped down version of GTM without top panel controllers for installation use. GTM combines the multiple functions required for the interfacing and communications required in eSports tournaments into one device. GTM provides the interface for the gamers, provides the intercom mix, and allows remote control by tournament engineers.

Separate modes allows the GTM to be used by either coach, referee, and arena announcers.

The top panel of the GTM and GTM SI has three ‘large’ level controls for the user to adjust their individual mix into their headphones. The mixable sources are ‘GAME’, a stereo output of the game audio; ‘TEAM’, an overall level of the team comms channel; and ‘ME’, an output of the user’s own voice in their headphones. Each controller has a multicoloured LED ring around it to indicate the level position.

There are five options of sources for the stereo game audio on the rear panel, which are routed to the ‘GAME’ headphone level control. These sources include SPDIF via TOSLink connection, 3.5mm stereo jack auxiliary in, USB C audio input, and 2-channel Dante audio input. There are three stereo inputs available via the Dante/AES67 network. These can be mixed to 2-channel stereo using the separate GlenController Remote app. Each stereo pair also has a balance control. Typically only a single stereo pair is used for the game audio, however further inputs allow for futureproofing.

The additional HD-SDI connection of the GTM SDI is de-embedded to provide four pairs of stereo audio sources. These can be mixed to 2-channel stereo using the separate GlenController Remote app. Each stereo pair has a balance control. The HD-SDI signal is looped out so the GTM SDI can be used inline of the video signal. Other connections include a 3.5mm TRRS headset connection, 3-pin XLR microphone input with switchable +48V phantom power, and headphone output.

The rear facing panel gives access to input source switching, microphone input gain control, phantom power and bias, and dual network connections. On the GTM SDI the HD-SDI inputs are also positioned on the rear facing panel.

DARK8ADI - 8x Analogue/4x AES3 input to Dante

Glensound DARK8ADI is an analogue to digital converter designed to connect AES3 and line level analogue audio circuits to a Dante/AES67 audio network. It has four balanced AES3 inputs and eight balanced analogue inputs on the rear panel 3-pin XLR connectors. In total, sixteen audio circuits can be sent to the Dante network from the device, with eight derived from both the AES3 and analogue inputs with the AES3 input being sent to the output when a valid AES3 signal is detected. The other eight channels being sent to the network are always derived from the four AES3 inputs.

The front facing panel of the DARK8ADI has four red LEDs and four green LEDs that illuminate depending on the status of the link – with red indicating no connection, and green indicating a successful connection. There is one 8-way female D-type connector which is an alarm status connection that will report the failure of a link status if one is detected whilst in operation. A mini-USB connection allows the firmware of the DARK8ADI to be updated, along with the blue identify button and reset button.

The rear facing panel also has two standard network data SFP sockets provided to allow redundant network connectivity if using Dante network audio protocol (SFP modules not included). There are also two standard network data RJ45 sockets provided to allow redundant network connectivity if using Dante network audio protocol, with all connections of gigabit type. The status LEDs flash to show when data is being correctly communicated with the attached switch. Also on the rear panel are eight analogue audio inputs that are electronically balanced and accept 0dB line level signals. These analogue inputs can be routed into the AoIP network so long as no valid AES3 input is detected on the equivalent AES3 channel, as AES3 has priority. One AES3 channel carries two audio channels therefore AES3 I/P 1 equals analogue inputs 1 and 2; AES3 I/P 2 equals analogue inputs 3 and 4; AES3 I/P 3 equals analogue inputs 5 and 6; and AES3 I/P 4 equals analogue inputs 7 and 8. The signals can be routed via Dante to anywhere on a network.

There are four balanced AES3 inputs that can accept AES signals up to 192kHz. These AES digital input signals always take priority over analogue inputs to the eight switched AoIP outputs. Therefore sending an input to channel 1 in both digital and analogue domains will result in the digital signal being accepted and the analogue signal being disregarded.

Two IEC mains sockets, primary and secondary accept external AC voltage of 100 – 240 VAC +/-10%. There is a non-accessible internal fuse for this input. DARK8ADI is designed to operate with either primary or secondary mains sources or both for power redundancy.

Maximum analogue input level: +18dB. Input impedance: greater than 20kOhm. Distortion: 0.0013%, at 100Hz; 0.0022%, at 1kHz; 0.00094%, at 10kHz. Noise: -93dB, at line up, A weighted RMS. For example, if you have connected the DARK16I to two separate PSUs only one of which works then you will have a red ‘fault’ LED illuminate to warn you that there is no power detected on the connection that is not receiving mains power.

There is one 8-way female D-type connector which is an alarm status connection that will report the failure of a link status if one is detected whilst in operation. The mini-USB connection allows the firmware of the DARK16O to be updated along with the blue identify button and reset button. A mini-B USB socket allows connection to a PC for performing firmware updates, in conjunction with 'Identify' and 'update' buttons. Two SFP slots are provided to take optional primary and secondary SFP fibre interfaces for the network connection. Two Ethernet sockets provide primary and secondary copper Ethernet connections.

The rear panel of the DARK16O has sixteen audio outputs from the network. Each output is on its own Neutrik 3-pin XLR pin plug. There are two IEC mains sockets, primary and secondary. Both are a standard IEC mains socket that accepts external AC voltage of 100 – 240 VAC +/- 10%. There is a non-accessible internal fuse for this input. DARK16O is designed to operate with either primary or secondary mains sources or both for power redundancy.

DARK1616 - 16x16 line-level and AES to Dante

Dark1616 is a dedicated, rack-mounting, Dante Ethernet interface, designed for use in demanding broadcast environments. It has sixteen inputs and outputs, available as analogue balanced inputs and outputs, and also as eight AES inputs and outputs (sixteen digital channels). It can be used as a stand-alone interface into a Dante network, or in conjunction with a second, directly linked Glensound interface, as an audio 'snake', or for use as the network-connected or point-to-point interface to Glensound's Dante commentator units.

It has both redundant network cable connections and redundant power supplies for extra resilience, and has redundant SFP slots, providing the option to use multimode, single-mode or single-core fibre connections for additional range. It is compatible with Glensound DARK series or AoIP44 Dante interfaces when directly connected as a 'snake'.

Dante is a software and hardware solution, offering high-performance audio distribution over standard IP networks, supporting hundreds of simultaneous channels of uncompressed audio with low latency and accurate synchronization. For further information, DANTE networking basics. In a Dante network, the Dante Controller web interface controls audio routing. Any Dante input can be routed to any other output on the network, or to multiple network output points.

The four network connections of the Dark1616 can be configured as a switch. In this configuration, if the primary and secondary redundant SFP/fibre slots have been used as the network link, the RJ45 connections can be used to loop out to further local DARK units or other Dante devices that will all be shown separately on the network within the Dante Controller configuration utility.

The front panel of the 1U high, rack-mounting chassis has eight LEDs to indicate the status of the primary and redundant systems. PSU1, PSU2, primary link, and secondary redundant link all have indicators to show either normal or fault mode. A nine-pin, D-sub connector is used to relay any fault information via GPO. This can be used to trigger alarms on other systems in the event of link or power supply failures.

A mini-B USB socket allows connection to a PC for performing firmware updates, in conjunction with 'Identify' and 'Update' buttons. Two SFP slots are provided to take optional primary and secondary SFP fibre interfaces for the network connection. Two Ethercon sockets provide primary and secondary copper Ethernet connections.

The rear panel contains six 25-pin, D-sub connectors. Two of these are for the AES input/outputs, AES 1-4 and AES 6-8. Two are for the analogue inputs, analogue in 1-8 and analogue in 9-16. The final two are for the analogue outputs, analogue out 1-8 and analogue out 9-16. All analogue and AES outputs are always available. On the inputs, any valid AES signal will have priority over the analogue inputs. Two IEC power inlets feed the main and secondary redundant power supplies.

Analogue audio: +18dBu/+18dBu, maximum, input/output, 20k ohms/50 ohms impedance, Distortion: 0.0022% THD at 1kHz, referred to +8dBu output. Noise: -93dB at 'line up', RMS, A-weighted. Dynamic range: 111dB. Inputs and outputs are electronically balanced and can be wired unbalanced. Digital audio: AES3. Response: 'Flat to 22kHz'. Maximum levels: 0dBFs, inputs and outputs, 110 ohms. Distortion: 0.00018% THD+N. Noise: -123dB RMS, A-weighted, residual. Inputs and outputs are transformer balanced. Dynamic range: 141dB. Input frequency: 16 to 192kHz (sample rate converted to meet Dante network frequency). Output frequency: 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 192kHz (output matched Dante network). Power source: 2x AC inputs, 100 - 240V AC, 47-63Hz; 18W at 230V AC. Dimensions: Rack mounting, 1U x 300mm deep excluding connectors. Weight: 3.3kg.

Included accessories: 2x power cables, with UK 13A connectors.
Optional accessories: Dante/SFPS, Dante/SFPM, Dante/SFP1, and Dante/SFP2.
