SONTRONICS MICROPHONES - Valve/Ribbon

A range of Sontronics microphones that have been designed and engineered in the UK, and employ either valve or ribbon technology. For vocal or instrument use in the recording or broadcast studio.

ARIA 2 Valve, cardioid

Aria 2 is a professional valve condenser microphone, hand-built in England to deliver 'stunning vocal recordings with warmth, clarity and character'. Designed for use in a studio, a vocal booth or a live room. A proprietary 34mm gold-sputtered capsule, developed exclusively for Aria 2 allows a smoother, more open sound, with balanced mids and a detailed top end for clarity when recording vocals, spoken word, acoustic instruments and more.

Finished in premium black with golden accents, the microphone is tuned for a smooth frequency response with consistent results, and the internal circuitry affords increased sensitivity, lower self-noise and a cleaner, more dynamic signal.

Included accessories: Discrete direct stand mount, 8-pin cable, SPS-2 power supply, ABS carry case with laser-cut foam inlay, user manual, and power cables.

Microphone type: Valve/tube condenser. Polar pattern: Cardioid. Frequency response: 20Hz to 20kHz. Pad: 0dB, -10dB. Filter: Linear, 75Hz. Valve/tube: European-made 12AX7/ECC83S. Sensitivity: 18mV/Pa. Impedance: Less than 200Ohms. Maximum SPL: 135dB, for 0.5% THD at 1kHz. Equivalent noise level: 17dB, A-weighted. Dimensions: 230 x 55 x 55mm, microphone. Weight: 0.75kg, microphone; 1.92kg, power supply unit.

MERCURY Valve, variable pattern

Sontronics Mercury is a variable-pattern valve condenser microphone that is hand-built in the UK. The microphone utilises premium-grade electronic components with exceptionally low tolerances. This results in a clean signal and accurate reproduction of vocals and instruments. Mercury’s power supply features both pad and filter switches and a fully sweepable polar pattern control that provides an infinite choice of pickups, from omni to figure-of-eight and cardioid, and every nuance in between.

Included accessories: Wooden mic box, shockmount, SPS-1 power supply, 8-pin cable, power cable, aluminium flightcase.

Microphone type: Variable-pattern valve/tube condenser. Polar pattern: Fully sweepable from omnidirectional via cardioid to figure-of-eight and everything in between. Frequency response: 20Hz to 20kHz. Pad: 0, -10dB. Filter Linear: 75Hz. Valve/tube Mercury: European-made 12AT7/ECC81. Sensitivity: 20mV/Pa. Impedance: Less than 200 Ohms. Maximum SPL: 125dB, for 0.5% THD at 1kHz. Equivalent noise level: Less than 14dB, A-weighted. Connector: 8-pin connector, microphone; 3-pin XLR-M, power supply. Power: 115/230V SPS-2 power supply included (phantom power not required). Product dimensions: 250 x 90 x 80mm. Weight: 1.05kg, microphone; 1.45kg, microphone with shock mount; 1.95kg, power supply.

SIGMA 2 Ribbon, figure-of-eight

Sontronics Sigma 2, along with its siblings Delta 2 and Apollo 2, sit at the very pinnacle of ribbon microphone technology and represents 'the best of British engineering'. The original Sigma was one of the first phantom-powered ribbon microphones in the world - offering high sensitivity, low self-noise and plug-and-play compatibility with any audio interface, preamp or mixer.

As you’d expect from a ribbon mic, Sigma 2 delivers an 'intimate, natural reproduction' and is suited to vocals, solo wind and string instruments.

Included accessories: Shockmount, ABS flightcase

Microphone type: Ribbon. Polar pattern: Figure-of-eight. Frequency response: 20Hz to 15kHz. Sensitivity: 24mV/Pa. Impedance: Less than 150Ohms. Max. SPL: 125dB, for 0.5% THD at 1kHz. Equivalent noise level: 10dB, A-weighted. Connector: 3-pin XLR. Power: Phantom power 48V required. Dimensions: 164 x 50 x 32mm. Weight: 0.37g, microphone; 0.63kg, microphone with shock mount.

DELTA 2 Ribbon, figure-of-eight

Suggested as a 'must-have for guitarists and brass players alike', Delta 2 is the successor to the original Delta, which was Sontronics' first ever ribbon microphone designed specifically to handle high-SPL sources such as guitar amplification, saxophone and brass. The microphone can be employed in the studio or in live use, and by using phantom power, Delta 2 can deliver all the intimate tone and subtlety expected from a ribbon microphone, while being rugged enough to capture powerful signals without overloading or clipping.

Included accessories: Shock mount, ABS flight case

Microphone type: Ribbon. Polar pattern: Figure-of-eight. Frequency response: 20Hz to 15kHz. Sensitivity: 10mV/Pa. Impedance: Less than 150Ohms. Maximum SPL: 140dB, for 0.5% THD at 1kHz. Equivalent noise level: 10dB, A-weighted. Connector: 3-pin XLR. Power: Phantom power +48V required. Dimensions: 164 x 72 x 35mm. Weight: 0.39kg, microphone; 0.64kg, with shock mount.

APOLLO 2 Stereo ribbon, Blumlein X/Y figure-of-eight

Apollo 2 is an active stereo ribbon microphone that is often employed in studios, venues, and sound stages. The microphone has two 'highly sensitive' ribbon motors set in X-Y Blumlein formation, ensuring an accurate three-dimensional image and every detail of the recording space and the instruments or voices are collected. Sontronics suggest Apollo 2 is ideal for stereo recording, as an overhead for orchestra, choir or instrumental ensemble, or to capture the full character of a solo instrument in stereo or mono.

Included accessories: Shock mount, 6-Pin to 3-Pin XLR cable, ABS flight case

Mic Type: Stereo ribbon. Polar Pattern: Blumlein X-Y figure-of-eight (x2). Frequency response: 20Hz to 15kHz. Sensitivity: 24mV/Pa. Impedance: Less than 150Ohms. Maximum SPL: 125dB. Connector: 6-pin to two 3-pin, cable supplied. Power: Phantom power 48V (±4V) required. Dimensions: 260 x 65 x 65mm. Weight: 0.92kg, microphone; 1.18kg, with shock mount.
