Defender cable crossovers are for use across roadways and walkways and open venues, in fact anywhere that cables are left exposed in hostile environments such as construction sites, warehousing, carnivals, exhibitions and music events. Most are coloured black and yellow for high visibility and consequently maximum public safety, however some models are coloured blue to better signify wheelchair compatibility. The top surfaces have anti-slip treads with no ridges or crevices to trip a pedestrian.
Each section interlocks using connector plugs to make continuous lengths, and will withstand vehicle loadings (from a typical 200mm x 200mm tyre imprint) of up to 5 tons so even the largest articulated truck can pass over safely. The body of the crossover is manufactured from pressure-moulded polyurethane, which has a non-skid top surface and bottom, even when wet. The lid is moulded polyethylene, which is highly durable in extreme weather conditions and has a patented self-cleaning hinge that omits internally collected dirt to retain a clear track.
Defender cable protectors manufactured from a recycled/new mix TPU and are PVC-free, making them better for the environment. Fire protection class E requirements according to DIN EN 13501-1 are met, as well as having resistance to oil, petrol and short-term contact with solvent.
MINI Series - 3x small channels
Defender Mini cable protections has been designed for use in trade fairs, walkways, marketplaces, workshops, warehouses, events, and department stores. It features three small channels, with channels 1 and 3 measuring 35 x 30mm, and the middle channel (2) measuring 35 x 35mm. A 2.0 tonnes per 20cm sq. maximum load capacity offers a channel filling height of 19.8mm, whilst a 1.2 ton load offers a filling height of 25.2mm. Straight sections measure 1005 x 290mm and have a height of 50mm. A LUX version offers semi-transparent lid for use with light ropes for better ramp identification in dark areas.
Defender MINI series straight sections (85200/85200BLK/85200LUX) measure 1005 x 290 x 50mm (LxWxH).
Defender suggest MINI series cable crossovers are not suitable for road traffic.

3 Series - 3x large channels
Defender 3 has been designed for use in trade fairs, market places, workshops, warehouses, shopping centres and department stores. The cable protection has a profile height of 73mm and has three cable channels, one (the centre channel) measuring 45 x 50mm and two measuring 52 x 49mm. A load-bearing capacity of 5.0 tonnes per 20cm sq. and class B2 (DIN 4102) fire resistance, along with resistance to oil, acids, solvents, and petrol ensure safe crossing for both pedestrians and vehicles.
Defender 3 series consists of the 85002 straight section measuring 1000 x 600 x 73mm (LxWxH), 85009 45-degree curve, 85008 end ramp and 85002LUX straight section with a semi-translucent lid measuring 1000 x 600 x 73mm (LxWxH). The semi-translucent lid of the 85002LUX allows the user to insert LED lighting strip into one or more of the channels to illuminate the crossover section for extra visibility and safety.
Additional 85004 connector plugs are also available to fit the Defender 3 series cable crossover protection. As they are removable, it is not necessary to replace an entire crossover because a connector lug was ripped off.

3 2D Series - 3x large channels, modular
Defender 3 2D is a series of modular cable crossovers that allow linking in both length and depth orientation. This can be particularly useful for larger events whereby three channels may not be enough for the cable runs applicable. A 6-degree ramp can also be connected to allow wheelchairs or vehicles to cross without issue.
The cable crossover has three channels, with the centre channel of 45 x 50mm is flanked by two channels measuring 52 x 49mm. A half-length version is available as 86900250, and is particularly useful when creating a brick-style layout for strength. Maximum load is approximately 5.0 tonnes per 20cm sq. Adapters are available to ensure compatibility with Defender 3 series crossover - when using in lengthways layout.

MIDI 5 Series - 5x medium channels
Like Defender 3 series, MIDI 5 has been designed for use in trade fairs, market places, workshops, warehouses, shopping centres and department stores, and shares many of the same features as the Defender 3 series with the main difference being a lower height profile of 52mm and five cable ducts. Each of the five channels are 34 x 36mm and are protected by a hinged, yellow polyethylene lid. Like the Defender 3 series, the Defender MIDI 5 has class B2 fire resistance and is resistant to oils, acids, solvents and petrol. It has been tested to have a load-bearing capacity of 5 tonnes per 20cm sq.
Defender MIDI 5 series consists of the 8530 straight section measuring 890 x 542 x 52mm (LxWxH), 85340 45-degree curve, 85308 end ramp and 85300LUX straight section with semi translucent lid measuring 890 x 542 x 52mm (LxWxH). The semi translucent lid of the 85300LUX allows the user to insert LED lighting strip into one or more of the five available channels to illuminate the crossover section for extra visibility and safety.
Wheelchair ramp modules, coloured blue for identification are available, and are compatible with the predrilled 85300BLUE only. 85306 is a pack of six ramp pieces measuring 250mm each. Defender recommend using three pieces on each side of the cable crossover to form a total width of 80cm when used in conjunction with optional 85307L/85307R end pieces.
85304 replacement/spare connector plugs are also available as an optional spare part.

MIDI 5 2D Series - 5x medium channels, modular
Available in yellow or blue finish, this cable crossover has five channels all measuring 34.5 x 38.6mm. Like Defender 3 2D, MIDI 5 2D if of modular design and therefore allows linking in both length and depth orientation. This can be particularly useful for larger events whereby three channels may not be enough for the cable runs applicable. The maximum load is approximately 5.0 tonnes per 25 x 30cm and is commonly used in locations where trucks or forklifts are crossing.
A 6-degree ramp can also be connected to allow wheelchairs or vehicles to cross without issue. Alternatively, 869302, a short depth ramp for non-wheeled crossover can be used. A complete wheelchair crossover set can be purchased as 869300SETBLU. This set includes ramps for both sides along with the central cable protection measuring a total of 1000 x 1185mm. All blue ramps have an embossed wheelchair logo for identification.
A half-length version is available as 869350/869350BLU, and is particularly useful when creating a brick-style layout for strength. Maximum load is approximately 5.0 tonnes per 20cm sq. Adapters are available to ensure compatibility with Defender 3 series crossover - when using in lengthways layout.

Recognised by Canford
Some products in this category are Recognised by Canford due to Defender’s environmental consideration while designing and manufacturing. Here’s how Defender explain their recycled manufacturing process:
"Most companies nowadays place high value on sustainability, and so do we. And most probably so does your company. This is why we recycle over 90% of the DEFENDER® materials in-house – from shredding to granulating. We even monitor the whole process here on our production premises. We know exactly which materials we are processing. Everything comes from Germany and exclusively from certified companies. DEFENDER continually recycles granulate and is an official recycler of materials from Bayer, BASF and DOW Chemical.
After processing the raw material from our German certified suppliers, the granulate remains in our recycling loop. At the end of their life cycle, the cable protectors are reprocessed into new granulate and the whole process is repeated.
DEFENDER products contain no environmentally harmful PVC."
