ALLEN & HEATH ZONE MIXERS

Allen & Heath zone mixers have been designed to give 'comprehensive control' of background music an paging in bars, restaurants, retail, and leisure environments.

GR4 4-zone, 4x mic in, 4x stereo line in

Allen & Heath GR4 is a 1U rack-mounting or desktop audio zone mixer that provides intuitive control of background music and paging.

The rear facing panel of the zone mixer features rotary level controllers associated with the 4x microphone input channels. Mic-1 channel has dedicated LED indicators that illustrate selection of zone 1 and zone 2 mix bus. A further two LEDs signify the same for mic channels 2 through 4. 4x further rotary controllers are for the four stereo channels. Each stereo channel has dedicated mix bus LED indicators. The microphone section and the stereo line section both feature an LED that illuminates when one or more channels reach 3dB before clip. A 3-pin XLR microphone input is positioned to the left side of the front panel. This auxiliary input overrides input 4 on RCA (phono) which is positioned on the rear panel. An associated switch allows the user to switch the channel from front-mounted input to rear-mounted input and vice versa. A 3.5mm jack input allows the user to input an auxiliary audio source.

'Primary Mic mode' and 'Secondary Mic mode' allow the user to control hierarchal microphone feeds such as simple paging announcements, whilst 'Emergency mode' is for use with 3rd party systems in emergency situations and mutes all inputs except MIC 1 on alarm contact closure. 'Jukebox mode' provides a priority line input to the system for pre-recorded announcements or programme material such as sports commentary channels.

The right side of the front facing panel housed the output controllers and switching. Three-segment LED meters illustrate left and right output levels, with the three stages signifying -18dB, +3dB, and +17dB. Zone 1 and zone 2 sections each have LF and HF EQ control settings, LF is fixed at 80Hz, +/-15dB, and HF is fixed at 8kHz, +/-15dB. Finally, a mains power on/off switch allows access when desk-mounted or installed into a 1U rack space.

The rear of the GR4 has all I/O connectivity other than the 3-pin XLR microphone input mentioned. Four microphone inputs are provided via Phoenix connectors with MIC1 selectable to the optional front mounted 3-pin XLR. Four stereo inputs are provided by way of RCA (phono) connectors. 2x stereo (mono selectable via internal jumper) zones on rear mount Phoenix connectors. An additional 2x mono zone outputs are available with mix output being selectable from internal jumpers. Paging and Alarm contact inputs on rear mounted Phoenix connectors allow integration with 3rd party paging stations and fire alarm systems. Remote control can be achieved via PL-14 Remote connected to the rear mounted RJ45 or custom/3rd-party analogue remotes connected to the rear mounted Phoenix connectors.

PL-14 Remote controller

PL-14 is an ‘intelligent’ remote controller for use with the Allen & Heath GR4 audio zone mixer. The remote provides the non-technical operator with local control of the music source selection and/or audio level.

Up to two controllers may be connected, one for each zone, or a single unit to simultaneously control both zones. A menu of setup options allows the installer to configure its function to match the specific requirements of each application. Additional switches may be wired for room combining situations and to disable the controller when the settings should not be changed. An optional PL-5 hand held infrared remote controller adds wireless control, and additional features including the store and recall of up to 4x source/level presets.

PL-14 can be mounted into a single unit UK wall box using the standard face plate provided, or furniture mounted. The remote interfaces with the GR4 using standard CAT5 cables. The second controller daisy-chains with the first for convenient single run cabling. Space is provided on the panel for custom labelling.
