TC ELECTRONIC PROCESSORS - D22 - Broadcast delay

The D22 is a high-resolution, broadcast, delay processor that has been designed for broadcast studios where slight adjustments are required so the audio output is synchronised accurately with video. It may also be used in live sound applications in larger venues where a delay line is required to feed additional speakers distant from the main speakers.

The 1U rack-mounting, two-channel processor can be adjusted in 0.1ms increments and is capable of producing independent delay up to 5200ms per channel. This can be displayed and set in formats including frames, fields and milliseconds, or metres and feet for larger delays - particularly helpful for setting up speaker systems. Updating the delay settings whilst in operation, either via manual input or using the 'tap' delay button, can be performed without incurring clicks, pitch changes or noise. The on-board digital AES/EBU and S/PDIF inputs, and analogue inputs via 24-bit A/D convertors can operate at internal sampling-rates of 44.1kHz or 48kHz. The D22 cannot be ran at 96kHz.

The I/O connections are all located on the rear panel, including 2x balanced, 3-pin, female, XLR analogue inputs, 2x balanced, 3-pin, male XLR analogue outputs, a BNC connector for word clock, a 3-pin female XLR digital AES/EBU input, a 3-pin, male XLR for digital AES/EBU output, RCA (phono) connectors in and out for S/PDIF, 5-pin DIN sockets for MIDI in, out and through and a 6.35mm jack socket for external controller such as a digital fader, momentary switch or alternating switch. An AC mains power switch can be found next to the IEC power inlet.

On the front panel, at the left corner there is an 'electronic' power switch - especially useful when using the lock mode, which when in operation prevent any accidental setting and power changes. All setting and parameter adjustments can be made on this panel. Using the page-select buttons and dedicated, rotary, control wheels, the user can navigate the menu on the easy-to-read 56 x 128 dot graphic LCD display. To the left of this display are eight LEDs indicating 'Remote In' - which illuminates when incoming serial remote data is being received; 'GPI' - which illuminates when an incoming pulse is detected; 'Sample Rate' - which illuminates constantly with the detected and locked external sampling-rate (32kHz, 44.1kHz, or 48kHz), or flashes when no sample-rate lock is active; 'Overflow' - which indicates an excessive input level and 'Edited' - which informs the user that the preset parameters have been edited but not yet stored. Additionally, a seven-stage (-40dB to 0dB) LED meter can be set to show the input or output levels for the left and right channels. This setting can be accessed and changed in the Utility menu.

Analogue inputs: 2x balanced, 3-pin female XLR, 20k ohms. Analogue outputs: 2x balanced, 3-pin male XLR, 40 ohms. Digital inputs and outputs: x 3-pin XLR, AES/EBU; 2x RCA (phono), S/PDIF. Word clock input: BNC, 75 ohms. Sample rates: 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz. MIDI: In, out, through. Power source: 100-240V AC, 50-60Hz. Dimensions: 483 x 44 x 208 (w x h x d) mm. Weight: 2.35kg.
